Firefox 3 Font Conflict – Mac 10.5

I’ve been having a not so fun font conflict.

The fonts in Safari, Firefox and many other applications are a garbled mess.

After upgrading to Firefox 3 garbled looking fonts were becoming a huge nuisance. Then Safari started acting up. I knew it had to be one of the 3,000 fonts loaded into my system.

Solutions:
1. Manage conflicts, duplicates & corruptions in Font Book or similar application like FontExplorerX (Freeware).

2. For garbled text, the most common cause is corrupt font caches. Try emptying the font cache – use a program like Tweak Freak for 10.4 or Onyx for 10.5 (Both are Freeware)

3. Helvetica Fractions in particular are known to cause problems, as is Times Phonetic. Don’t just disable these fonts in Font Book, but physically remove & delete them from your system and try your applications again.

Removing the non-system Helveticas fixed my Safari. Then removing & Deleting Times Phonetic fixed Firefox 3. WoooHoo!

I can’t seem to decide on what I want my business cards to look like. It’s always twice as hard when you’re designing for yourself.

Please leave me a comment on which one you like best. Thanks!

Font Management – “NOT Font Book”

The time has come to update & organize my files because…I just purchased the 20″ 2.66 GHz iMac!

It was really easy transferring all of my files from the old eMac to the new iMac. However, Font Book did not update/import my font library and collections.

I have almost 3,000 fonts and did not want to start over importing them 1 by 1.

Online research lead me to try FontExplorerX. So, far it has been great! It searched my hard drive and automatically imported any fonts that it found. FontExplorerX is more advanced yet easier to use than Font Book…and it’s FREE!

Listed below are a few great resources on Font Management that I’ve found:

Add Media (Video) to WordPress

If you can do it on mySpace you can do it in your blog posts!

You can easily add video (into a page or post) from any source like photobucket or YouTube. Here’s how:

Expand your “kitchen sink” by clicking on the icon

The Kitchen Sink Icon

You will now have more editing options. Choose the “Insert Media” option:

Insert Media Icon

A new menu will pop-up. Insert the “Direct link” from Photobucket (or whatever service your using) and enter the proportional dimensions of how you want it to display.

The preview window gives you a pretty accurate of how it will look.

Click “Insert”

Insert Video Window

It’s that easy! It will show up like this…
